O Department of Commerce of the United States issued, on Tuesday (26), conclusions favorable to the application of Tariff Antidumping and compensatory against 10 countries – including the Brazil – After investigations on corrosion resistant steel products.
Decisions cover US $ 2.9 billion in imports from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam, the trade department said in a statement.
“Commerce concluded that imports of (steel) core to the United States of ten business partners were being dumping and/or subsidies,” the department said.
Corrosion resistant steel is used to build cars, appliances and buildings, the department said.
“American companies and steel workers deserve to compete on equal terms,” said Undersecretary of International Trade William Kimmitt in a statement.
The ITC (International Trade Commission) will now make its own evaluation of the damage to the national steel industry, the department said.
“If ITC concludes that there has been specific damage to the commercial partner, the Trade Department will issue AD (anti -dumping) and CVD (compensatory) charges,” the Trade Department said.
