The Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) has decided to expand the instruction of the Administrative Inquiry, which investigates alleged abuse of dominant position practiced by Google in online search and news markets.
Order published by Counselor Diogo Thomson on Thursday requests the sending of subsidies by civil society, class entities, academics and other stakeholders who may contribute to the analysis of the case.
The, started in 2019, investigates allegations of misuse of journalistic content of third parties on Google Search and Google News platforms, which could affect organic traffic vehicles and compromise the sustainability of the sector.

In this new stage, Cade seeks to better understand what are the effects of algorithm changes and artificial intelligence tools on news traffic. The agency also requested contributions on the remuneration of journalistic content and the impact of integration between search and digital advertising.
According to the agency, the demonstrations will have voluntary and informative character, without attributing procedural burden to employees, and may include documents, opinions, studies and analysis.

Contributions must be sent by September 28, by electronic protocol in the CADE electronic information system, so that they can officially integrate the case file.
“The action seeks to deepen the understanding of the potential competitive effects of Google practices and subsidize the court’s final decision on the inquiry,” said Cade, in a statement.
