O Adultization Billapproved by the Senate last Wednesday (27), seeks to establish mechanisms to curb the commercial exploitation of content involving children and adolescents on social networks. Alessandro Vieiraauthor of the project, argues that it is possible to regulate without censoring.
The project, which now goes to sanction, aims to ban those to monetize content involving images and videos of minors in inadequate situations. “Unfortunately, there is a huge global market for consuming this type of content”explains Vieira.
Project approval represents an important step in discussing social networks regulation in Brazil. Vieira argues that this initiative follows a global standard, starting with the protection of more vulnerable groups.
“It is feasible to build context of regulation without invading freedom of expression, without generating risk of censorship, but protecting the user and society”says Vieira, noting that the process should be conducted with dialogue and proper maturation time.
