When Vladimir Putin, after the beginning of the war in Ukraine, got into the diplomatic disfavour of the West, he still remained his partner in East Asia. The Chinese superpower, which is both the political and economic rival of the US, does not want to see the Russian loss on the front. At least that’s what China’s diplomacy chief.

A major shift in the diplomatic embargo for the Russian President was the Alaskan Summmit two weeks ago with Donald Trump. China welcomed it as a positive step. However, official statements may be the exact opposite of reality. In the text, we explain how China is looking at the last negotiations on the war in Ukraine, which apparently failed and whether he is worried about the closing up of the relations of the United States with Russia and in connection with the meeting in Alaska.

China as a winner?

China is looking. So briefly negotiating Trump with Putin on Alaska Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. “China is a real winner,” analysts for NBC News. The US President had a red carpet for Putin, and the heads of state were also discussed in a limousine. The summit was accompanied by a chamber atmosphere. Russian President submitted to Trump for the end of the war. For example, they counted on the handover of the whole Donbas to the Russians or with the refusal of NATO access to the Ukrainians.

A few days later, European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Genskyj also negotiated with the US President in the White House. Trump confirmed that America would provide security guarantees to Ukraine. However, the result was unclear – the world’s most powerful man proposed a meeting of presidents of Russia and Ukraine. But this will not happen in the near future. In addition, Putin and Russian officials reject the possibility that the West would provide Ukraine security guarantees, for example in the form of the presence of Western soldiers.

When there was a large meeting in the White House, where there was also Greenable, American CNN that China is closely pursuing efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Television pointed out that while Trump is negotiating with President of Ukraine, China’s leaders see something completely different in this: the opportunity.

They talk about peace, war suits them

The Eastern power of the leader Si Jin-Pching that he welcomes activities that would bring a long-term peaceful solution to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. “China has long declared that it supports any negotiations that will lead to a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine. She referred to Alaska’s summit as a positive step,” recapitulates Chinese official statements by Filip Šebok, headed by the Prague branch of the Central European Institute of Asian Studies (CEIAS).

However, the expert underlines that the statements and real attitudes of the leadership of the Communist Party of China, which rules the country, may vary. This is especially true of the issue of war in Ukraine. “Despite the official statements, there is no end of the conflict in Ukraine in the eminent interest of China,” says Sinologist Šebok. China, in his words, suits it because it diverts the attention of the west of the pacifical space.

But the powers could also be able to end the end of the military conflict in Ukraine. This is if China could participate in the reconstruction of the bombed parts of the country.

“It would not have a problem with this. It has resources and could politically benefit from it in the post -war situation,” says Šebok about the possibility of reconstruction of the war -torn country. China presented that it could provide its own security guarantees to maintain peace after a potential agreement. Ukrainian president such a possibility with the words that Ukrainians China has not been helping since the beginning of the war.

The convergence of the United States presidents with Russia is unclear even after a meeting in Alaska. That could shake China’s position. “It is not readable whether Donald Trump’s waiting strategy is coming closer. Today China profits that Russia has no big alternatives to whom to negotiate,” says the institute analyst to investigate Asia.

Checking nuclear weapons? China says no

Recently, Trump discussed the control of nuclear weapons at the Alaska Alaska Summit. The leaders also said that China could also participate in it. Putin opened at the meeting of the Nuclear Weapons Agreement. The aim would be a kind of “denuclearization”.

However, China will not participate in such a new agreement. Beijing on Wednesday that it maintains its nuclear forces “at the minimum level needed for national security and does not engage in arms with any country”.

Last year, the Russian President himself reduced the threshold for the use of a nuclear attack in the Russian nuclear doctrine. The head of the Security Council and former President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev regularly with the West using nuclear weapons. Trump in early August by sending submarines near Russia in case there were real threats.
