A person lost his life and around 600 were arrested during the protests registered on Thursday in Yakarta, where clashes with the police were recorded, authorities and organizers report.

The deceased, a driver of the Gojak application, was run over on Thursday night by a police vehicle during the protests registered in front of the Parliament of Indonesia, an association of motorcycle taxi drivers in the country indicated in a statement.

The mobilization, convened by student unions and organizations, demanded labor improvements and rejected an approved salary increase for Indonesian deputies, who will now earn about $ 14,000 per month (about $ 12,000).

The police chief in Yakarta, Asep Edi Suheri, confirmed the arrest of the officer involved in the deadly outrage, who will be investigated by the Internal Affairs Unit on whether he committed any infraction.

“We will take firm measures against any member who has committed some infraction or violation in this afternoon’s incident,” police command said at a press conference.

In a video about this incident published on social networks you can see a policeman of the police circulating at high speed until impacting the protester, who was in the middle of the road.

This Friday a new day of protests in the capital and other cities of the Indonesian archipelago is planned, which follows the registered yesterday and another organized on Monday.

According to the Oenegé Institute of Legal Assistance of Yakarta, which provides legal assistance to Indonesian activists, around 600 protesters remain detained by the Police.

The outrage has been increasing after it is published that the income of the deputies will increase 33 % this year until reaching an average of 230 million monthly rupees, in a country in which millions of people accrue 3 % of that amount for a month of work, according to estimates of the Tempo Indonesian medium, which quotes sources linked to public budgets.

The unions also require reforms in labor legislation to end out the outsourcing, except taxes with low -income workers and guarantee vacation payments, among other requests.
