Diplomat cites UN data indicating that 1 million Palestinians face food insecurity and condemns expansion of settlements in the West Bank
China’s permanent deputy representative at the United Nations (UN), Geng Shuang, asked on Wednesday (27.2025) during a meeting of the Security Council that Israel immediately stops its military operations in the Gaza Strip.
The Chinese diplomat stated that there is a serious humanitarian situation in the territory after almost 700 days of conflict between Israel and Hamas. According to Geng, Israeli military actions have caused daily civil deaths.
According to the Chinese representative, 1 million people in Gaza face emergency food insecurity. The local population is estimated at 2 million.
The diplomat also mentioned the situation in the West Bank, where Israel of settlements.
“The plan, once implemented, will inevitably lead to the most spilled blood and displacement, increasing danger and insecurity for both the people of Gaza and the detained hostages.”he said.
China argues that the Security Council will act to reach a ceasefire. The diplomat said that humanitarian aid in Gaza has been scarce because of the “Lack of political will of Israel and deliberately created obstacles.”
