Atletico Mineiro announced on Friday (29) the resignation of coach Cuca, two days after the 2-0 loss at the MRV Arena for rival Cruzeiro, in a match valid for the quarterfinals of the Brazilian Cup.
Since January in office in his fourth time with the club, Cuca led the team in 47 games, with 22 wins, 13 draws and 12 losses (56% of success).
“I understand the resignation. I think it is justified by the latest results in the Brazilian Championship,” Cuca said in a statement.
Atletico is the 12th in the Brazilian table, and comes in a sequence of three games without a win in the championship, with two losses in the last matches.
The next commitment is on Sunday (31), against Vitória, in Salvador, for the 22nd round of the national.
Assistant coach Lucas Gonçalves will lead the team in the match.
The return game of the Brazilian Cup against Cruzeiro is scheduled for September 11.
Cuca is the most victorious coach in the history of Atletico Mineiro. He won the 2013 Libertadores, the Brazilian and the 2021 Brazilian Cup, as well as four Mineiro Championship trophies (2012, 2013, 2021 and 2025).
Overall, Cuca led Atletico in 292 matches, with 157 wins, 68 draws and 67 losses.
