President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) said on Friday, 29, that he does not intend to follow the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the other defendants of the so-called “crucial core” in the action of attempted coup. “I have something better to do,” he said in an interview with Radio Itatiaiain Belo Horizonte (MG).

The trial of the criminal action of the coup by the first class of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) will start next Tuesday, 2, and has sessions scheduled for two weeks.

Lula said that what is under analysis in the court is not Bolsonaro’s “figure”. “It is the behavior of this citizen, who was President of the Republic, due to the complaints and allegations made and the evidence determined by the Federal Police. It is the case of the process that will be tried. If he has committed the crime, he will be punished. If he did not, he will be acquitted and life continues,” he said.

The president also disapproved of the articulation of parliamentarians for the approval of an amnesty project that could benefit Bolsonaro. “It’s such an impertinent thing. No one has been condemned. The man hasn’t even tried,” he said.

According to Lula, it is up to the former president to present evidence in defense to prove his innocence. “He who defends himself and proves that he is a lie,” he said. The amnesty proposal, one of the priorities of the opposition, is still stopped in the House of Representatives.

The president also commented on the request of Bolsonaro’s son, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), to continue his term even living in the United States. He returned to defend the parliamentarian’s cassation.

“I already talked to the president (of the House) Hugo Motta, with several deputies, that it is extremely necessary to revoke Eduardo Bolsonaro because he will move to history as the largest traitor of this country,” he said.

“He leaves Brazil and goes to the United States to lie on Brazil. Because the accusations that the (US President Donald) Trump made to Brazil to tax are all untrue,” said Lula.
