An institution that, through the fates and stories of specific people, seeks to bring the public closer to why the SNP originated, how it was and what importance is to this day, It celebrates 70 years of its existence.
The anniversary of the SNP Museum will also be reflected in the cultural program of the national celebrations in Banská Bystrica. “A film on the history of the museum and its buildings will be projected. We have published a publication that we have been introducing from today. We provide a presentation not only of us but also the Slovak National Museum or the Military History Institute and we also have a period camp with period technology, ”said the director of the Museum Marian Uhrin.
The Banská Bystrica Museum, as a memory institution, keeps the legacy, memories and collection items related to the SNP. One of the most important historical events is trying to present to the public through the stories of specific people. “They concern not only ordinary ordinary insurgents, guerrillas or civilian inhabitants and victims of repression, but also we also have personal subjects that belonged to the top representatives of the Slovak National Council or the headquarters of the rebel army,” added Uhrin.
The SNP Museum was established in 1955, in July 1957 the Slovak Academy of Sciences admitted to him a scientific character. The institution originally resided in the Barbakan area in the historic center of Banská Bystrica. The construction of the SNP Memorial, the work of architect Dušan Kuzma, in which the museum is still based, began in 1966.
The nationwide celebrations of the SNP in Banská Bystrica are organized by the Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic, the Office of the Government of the Slovak Republic and other resorts. In the park under the SNP Memorial, there is a cultural and accompanying program, demonstrations of military history clubs and a presentation of modern technology of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic on Friday. The government has earmarked over EUR 630,000 for the celebration organization.
