OpenAi announced on Thursday (28) the official opening of an office in Brazil, which will be sheltered in São Paulo. So far, the company’s presence in the country was through the performance of two employees.
According to OpenAi, the space will be a place for meetings and training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for various audiences, a model similar to what Google does in the country. The company founded by Sam Altman also plans that the site becomes a meeting space for startups and the community of Brazilian developers.
The office’s address has not yet been disclosed, as well as the number of employees to act on site. The company says it should reveal new details in the coming months.

“There is a lot of enthusiasm around Artificial Intelligence in Brazil. Startups are quickly advancing and large companies are already incorporating these tools into their operations. Having an office here allows us to be closer to customers and partners, as well as supporting this movement,” says Brad Lightcap, the company’s director of operations.
OpenAi also announced that ChatgPT already brings together 50 million monthly users in Brazil – earlier this month, the company had already revealed that Brazilians send over 140 million messages daily to the tool. “Brazilians are not only using our tools, but also creating from them,” Nicolas Andrade, OpenAi’s director of public policy to America, said in a statement.
The official presence should also intensify the regulatory interests in the country. This month, Andrade drew attention by stating that Brazil should not bring the discussion of copyright to AI regulation.

Last week, the company became a target of the newspaper process S.Paulo Folhawhich considers that the company appropriated material protected by copyright. Currently, the so -called AI frame (PL 2,338) is under discussion in the House after being approved in the Senate in December 2024.
