Brazilian beef exports are expected to hit the record in August, even with the sector highly impacted by the United States, which until July was Brazil’s second main external customer, behind only China.
Preliminary data from Secex (Foreign Trade Secretariat) show an increase of 35% in the daily average of beef shipments until the fourth week of August. This month’s accumulated, 212.9 thousand tons were shipped.
“We will definitely hit a record for August,” says Lygia Pimentel, CEO of Agrifatto consulting firm. For her, Brazil will send 265 thousand tons of fresh beef abroad this month, surpassing the previous record of 217 thousand tons, recorded in August 2024.

The increase in export value also draws attention. The average value of the ton rose 26% this month, compared to the same period of 2024, resulting in 70% growth in the revenue obtained by companies with external meat sales.
Until the fourth week of August, beef exports totaled $ 1.19 billion, placing the protein among the five main products of the Brazilian exporter – behind only oil, soy and iron ore.
With preliminary data, it is not yet possible to know which buyers are replacing the United States, which until July bought about 28.5 thousand tons of meat per month, on average.

“We imagined that China has accelerated imports and maybe we sent me more to Mexico as well. But we need to wait until the end of the month to be sure,” says Pimentel.
It is quite possible that, with prohibitive imports from Brazil due to the 50% surcharge that came into force on the 1st, the United States has increased the demand for beef by other suppliers, such as Australia. And in this market reorganization, other customers, such as China, have redirected their purchases for Brazil.
“It is a strong demonstration of the resilience of the sector,” concludes the expert.
