Video shared by Israel was presented by Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces widespread contestation with the preparation of a new offensive in Gaza

Israel released a video of the October 7 attack led by Hamas on Friday night, when he faces international conviction for his imminent attack on the city of Gaza.

The video shows the attack on the Taasa family home in Netiv Haasara, a community on the Gaza border. The video was part of a compilation of about 45 minutes of images of the terrorist attack that Israel showed world leaders, diplomats and journalists, but did not publicly disclose.

In the video now released, Sabine Taasa – whose husband and eldest son were killed on October 7 – is next to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu while he presents the images.

“Let’s destroy Hamas, let’s bring our hostages home, because we remember October 7th, and you should also remember,” begs Netanyahu in the pre-recorded segment. Although Netanyahu claims that the video was never publicly shown, segments of it was released by the Israeli Channel 12 News in March 2024.

The video, recorded by security cameras, begins with Sabine Taasa’s husband, Gil, taking two of his children to the house’s anti-bomb shelter in the backyard. A Hamas terrorist throws a grenade at the shelter, which explodes. A moment later, Gil Taasa’s body falls to the floor.

Dressed on inside clothes, the two boys are then taken to the family kitchen, which is spotted with bloodstains. When a Hamas militant enters the kitchen, one of the boys gets up and says in English, “Please, please, please let me go home!” Then shout, “My father! My father!”

The Hamas militant then opens the fridge and offers the guys juice or wine. The boy says, “I want my mother,” before the militant gets a bottle of Coca-Cola, closing the refrigerator door and leaving.

The Israeli government asked the media not to spread or distribute the video in Israel “out of respect for the family’s will.”

The prime minister’s office did not explain why he chose to publicize the video now, but he comes up at the moment Israel faces international conviction for his planned attack on the city of Gaza and a few days after an initiative supported by the United Nations officially declared hunger in northern Gaza.

The older brother of the two boys was killed on the morning of October 7, while heading to the beach to go fishing with friends.
