A Federal Court of Appeals in the United States has declared this Friday illegal most Donald Trump’s tariffs. The decision represents a blow to the core of the US president’s economic agenda, although it also allows the president to keep them in force as the case continues.

The Court of Appeals has mostly ratified the decision that just three months ago, on May 29, the International Trade Court took. Then the three magistrates of that court based on Manhattan unanimously decreed that the Republican had exceeded his authority by imposing the taxes appealing to the idea that the US trade deficit represented a “national emergency.”

“The orders of world tariff Economic powers law in case of international emergency of 1977) To regulate import through tariffs, ”said that sentence against Trump, which jumped into Congress when imposing tariffs.

Trump immediately resorted to that decision and made the Court of Appeals allow to maintain the taxes in force while his appeal was resolved. This Friday, the Court has ratified the unconstitutionality of its decision, but has eliminated the part that forced it to withdraw the taxes immediately. Thus, you can keep them for the moment while the case continues, which could end in the Supreme Court.
