The month dedicated to awareness of organ donation began in Acre in an emblematic way: with the renewed hope of a 35 -year -old patient who received a new liver. The surgery took place last Thursday (28), at the Acre Hospital Foundation (Fundhacre), marking the 11th liver transplantation performed by the unit in 2025.
The transplanted agency came from Manaus (AM) and arrived in Rio Branco with the support of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), responsible for agile and safe transportation. The operation had the union of different fronts – from the medical team of Amazonas, responsible for the capture, to the Fundhacre professionals, who performed the surgical procedure.

For Fundhacre’s president, Soron Steiner, this type of action shows how critical cooperation is.
“Seeing each patient gaining a new chance of life is what motivates us every day. And this joint effort shows that when there is commitment and planning, we can transform the reality of many families,” he said.
The digestive surgeon, Aloysio Coelho, member of the transplant team, stressed that the process is only possible thanks to the gesture of solidarity of families.
“Even in a difficult time, families have this feeling of love of neighbor and accept to donate the organs of their loved one to save the lives of people who were waiting for so long,” he explained. He still warns: “Make it clear to your family that you want to be organ donor.”
The coordinator of the Fundhacre Transplant Service, Valéria Monteiro, also accompanied the transplant and stressed the symbolism of the surgery occurred at the beginning of the September Verde campaign.
“It could not have a more special way to start this month, with a genuine act of generosity of a family. We hope that our donations will increasingly increase, that families talk about donation, because without donor there is no transplant. And that we can reach and save more and more lives,” he said.
Reference in the northern region
Since 2014, Fundhacre has been the only public hospital in the North Region authorized to perform liver transplants. In addition, it also makes kidney, corneal and musculoskeletal tissue transplants. In 2025 alone, 26 such procedures have been accounted for.
The advance is the result of continuous investments of the State Government in structure, team training and expansion of service. Today, the institution is able to perform high complexity surgeries and accompany patients after the operation, ensuring treatment in Acre without the need for displacements to other states.
