Three people lost their lives and another 94 suffered injuries after a passenger train derailed on Saturday in the northwest of Egypt. This was announced by the Egyptian Ministry of Health, informs TASR based on DPA and AP reports.

The accident occurred in the Governorate Matrúc. The train was heading from the local town of Mersa Matrúh to the metropolis of Cairo. Seven of his wagons were derailed, two of which were overturned. According to the health sector, 30 ambulances were sent to transport injured to hospitals.

Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamal al-Vazir traveled to the scene of the accident. At the same time, he ordered the establishment of the Technical Commission to determine the cause and circumstances of the accident, the Egyptian railways informed. The Egyptian intelligence portal of Al-Jawm As-Saba immediately after the accident stated that It occurred as a result of landslide on the railway line.

So far, the worst railway accident took place in Egypt in 2002 when More than 360 people died in a passenger train fire.
