In the city of Toyoake in Central Japan, around 150 miles west of Tokyo, the municipal government has launched an unusual advance: to limit a non -binding guideline, smartphone use to two hours a day outside of work and school. The application, for the first time in this form in Japan, was brought in at the beginning of August 2025 and – if decided – should come into force from October 1, 2025.
