For the 2nd consecutive year, farmer wins contest of the largest tapioca at the Farinha Festival

The third night of the 2025 Flour Festival, held on Friday (29), was marked by the traditional dispute of the largest tapioca, which once again surprised the audience and the jurors for the size of the delicacies presented. The great champion was farmer Alcione Silva do Nascimento, 35, a resident of the BR-307 community, who took first place for the second year in a row.

With skill and experience, Alcione was able to prepare and turn a tapioca of 87.5 centimeters, ensuring the title of two -time champion. Thrilled, she pointed out that the practice comes from her experience in the countryside. “My origin is from the garden, I always worked with flour, gum and tapioca. Last year I had already won, and this year I increased even more. The secret is to bake well not to break. It is a huge emotion to participate and get first place again,” he said.

The champion received an award of R $ 3 thousand, value formed by contributions from City Hall, businessman Getulinho do Vale and Councilman Anderson Girimum. The second place took $ 1,000.

Mayor Zequinha Lima followed the dispute and stressed the importance of the festival to value local agriculture. “Communities organize themselves, choose their representatives and show all the ability in this contest. Our goal is to strengthen family farming and encourage quality production that reaches the families’ table,” he said.

According to the organization, almost 40% of festival exhibitors are family farmers, responsible for bringing to the public the diversity of products such as flour, beiju, Beléu and Tapioca. For the municipal manager, the event is a moment of recognition. “The real protagonists are the farmers. Without them there would be no festival. Cruzeiro do Sul shows to Brazil that here we have the best flour in the country, generating income and moving the local economy,” added Zequinha.

The program follows this Saturday (30) with the contest of the best flour, one of the most anticipated moments of the event, which will award the winner with $ 5,000.
