North Korean leader Kim Jong Un promised “a beautiful life” to the families of the “martyrs” who died fighting Russia in the war against Ukraine, the state media reported on Saturday (30) local time, praising the bereaved by the heroism of their children and husbands.

Kim, on Friday (29), received the families of the soldiers and expressed “sadness for not being able to save the precious lives” of men who sacrificed their lives to defend the honor of the country, according to the state news agency KCNA.

The heroic exploits of the soldiers and officers were possible thanks to the strength and courage transmitted to them by families, who are “the most tenacious, patriotic and just people in the world,” Kim told parents, wives and children, according to KCNA.

“They didn’t even write a short letter to me, but I think they must have trusted their families, including these dear children, me,” Kim said, according to the agency.

“The country will provide you with a beautiful life in the country defended at the cost of martyrs’ lives,” he said.

The meeting was the latest tribute to soldiers who died in the Kursk region of Russia, which borders Ukraine in April after months of silence.
