Maduro visits military bases after advancement of US ships

Arrival of the USS Lake Erie at the Caribbean on Friday (29.ago) raises the diplomatic tension between Washington and Caracas

The President of Venezuela, (United Socialist Party of Venezuela, left), has visited bases of the country’s army to react to the presence of the United States. In a video released on social networks on Friday (29.ago.2025), the Venezuelan leader is celebrated by thousands of military.

The movement occurs after the US send military vessels to the southern Caribbean region, near the territorial waters of Venezuela, as part of drug trafficking operations. Maduro has mobilized armed groups in the country and has come to “Ensure coverage of the national territory”.

The USs Lake Erie Guided Missile Cruiser from the US Navy, the Panifa Pacific channel to the Caribbean. The ship was seen on Friday (29.ago) by journalists from (Agence France-Presse) to one of the channel’s locks at 9:30 pm local time (11:30 pm in Brasilia), sailing east towards the Atlantic.

Naval movement takes place in a moment of tense diplomatic relations between US and Venezuela. Washington accuses Maduro of leading a drug cartel. The US $ 50 million government (Republican Party) for information leading to the arrest or conviction of the Venezuelan President.

On Wednesday (27.ago), Maduro said the US with the mobilization of war ships near the Venezuelan territory, including nuclear submarines.

According to him, the US military presence recorded in late August represents an unprecedented threat.

On the same day, Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López announced that Venezuela would make one on the Colombian border. He added that the reinforcement would cover about 1/3 from the region and the waters north of the country, but if this is a direct response to the US presence in the Caribbean.
