New data released by the show a mixed scenario in the fight against crime in the capital. While thefts and murders dropped, homicides, theft and femicide recorded a significant increase in July 2025 compared to the same period last year. In July, there were three cases. Throughout the year, there were 24 murders, representing a 22.5% drop in comparison with 2024, when there were 31 crimes. This is the smallest mark for the city of São Paulo in 18 years.
Thefts generally fell 13.6% in the year. The number marks the lowest level of this type of crime for the period since the beginning of the historical series. They fell expressively: 59,867 records in 2025, compared to 69,000 by 2024 – a reduction of about 10,000 cases. In seven months, 59,867 thefts were recorded throughout the city. In July alone, the retraction was 10.9% in the comparison. On the other hand, the number of homicides rose from 37 cases in July 2024 to 44 in July 2025. From January to July this year, 292 homicides, against 258 in the same period last year.
Femicides also grew: 38 this year, against 26 last year. Theft increased about 5%from 19,900 records to 21,000 in the same interval. The number of arrests has increased and reached the highest level of the last six years, with 26,100 offenders from January to July.
In an interview with Young Panthe mayor of São Paulo, commented on the position of the capital in the public security ranking that evaluates 400 cities in the country. As part of the actions to contain the crime, the city has launched a bill that bonus municipal civil guards with R $ 1,000 for each motorcycle stolen or stolen recovered.
