SIMA NEW PRE-PREVENTION TO THE AIRPORT SECTOR
A few days after the expected strikes were canceled in August by Menzies workers (formerly Groundforce) at national airports, a new warning arises. The Union of Metallurgical and related industries handed a pre-guard of strike for the period between September 3 and January 2, 2026.
Claims presented by workers
Workers require the end of salaries below the national minimum, currently 870 €, salary increases, payment of night hours and maintaining access to the parking lot. The information was advanced by the agency Lusa and cited by News to the Minute.
Calendar of strikes between September and January
The new stoppage calendar is extensive and covers almost every week between September and early January. In September, strikes are scheduled for 3 to 9, 12 to 15, 19 to 22 and 26 to 28. In October, the periods include 3 to 6, 10 to 13, 17 to 20, 24 to 27 and from October 31 to November 3. Already in November and December, the stoppages extend almost without interruption, with dates ranging from 7 to 10, 14 to 17, 21 to 24, 28th to December 1, 5 to 8, 12 to 15, and finally December 19 to January 2, 2026.
Recent background and cancellations in August
This new calendar comes shortly after the stoppage of the last two months, which took place from July 25 to 28 and August 8-11. More strikes were still planned until the end of August, but were canceled on August 13, according to the agency.
Expected impact and recommendations on passengers
Lisbon airport should be the most affected, as about two thousand of the 3,500 Menzies employees work there. To avoid complications, it is recommended to arrive four hours in advance for intercontinental flights and three hours for European routes.
