Fluminense faces Santos this Sunday (31), at 16h (Brasília), in Vila Belmiro, for the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship, with the mission of sustaining a widely favorable retrospective against Peixe. The last visit to the village ended with a 3-0 defeat for the Rio team in November 2023. Since 2019, there have been six wins, three draws and only one defeat for the Santos.

Fluminense “das Copas” in Brasileirão?

Even coming from a 1-0 setback against Bahia on the quarterfinals of the Brazilian Cup, the team led by Renato Gaúcho maintains the reputation of Copeira, won at the Club World Cup and confirmed in the South American knockout and the Brazilian Cup to date.

In the Brazilian Championship, however, the performance has not been the same. Despite occupying the top of the table, Flu still seeks to gear a convincing sequence in the performance. The marathon of decisive games and physical wear explains part of this oscillation, but the interval until the return against Bahia – scheduled only for September 10, after date FIFA – allows the technician to scale maximum force before Santos.

Embezzlement and possible news on the starting lineup

The Laranjeiras Club will have mandatory changes. Samuel Xavier is out of injury, Canobbio fulfills suspension and Nonato cannot act by contract, as he belongs to Santos. In addition, the left-back Fuentes is also embezzlement, but Renê remains as a starter of the position.

With that, Guga takes the right side. In defense, Freytes should follow among the holders, but there is a chance that Ignacio gain opportunity. Igor Rabello, a newly hired, can only act in Brasileirão and is also an alternative for Renato.

In midfield, the main question is in Nonato’s vacancy. Renato usually uses a crack of steering wheels, which can be kept in the presence of Neymar, who acts between the lines and requires greater protection. In this scenario, Bernal, Martinelli and Hercules would form the base of the sector. Another possibility is to climb a sock of creation, with Lucho Acosta and Paulo Henrique Ganso vying for space. The Argentine comes ahead for starting the last match of the Brasileirão against Bragantino.

Probable lineup: Fabio; Guga, Thiago Silva, Freytes (Ignacio), Renê; Martinelli, Hercules, Bernal (Acosta or Goose Lucho); Soteldo, Serna and Everaldo (pipe).
