India leaders, Narendra Modi, and Russia, Vladimir Putin, have already landed in China to attend with the Chinese president, Xi Jinping, to an intergovernmental security forum. Its presence raises the geopolitical burden of an appointment that has started this Sunday in the port city of Tianjin, southeast of Beijing, and that attended by about twenty leaders from countries that range from Asia to the borders of the European Union, passing through the Middle East. The event is presented as a key opportunity for China to display its diplomatic charms towards the global south, in contrast to the hard dialectic, even soez – “they are kissing my ass” – and the imposition of commercial barriers of the US president, Donald Trump.

The OCS is a platform founded in 2001 by China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrguistan, Tayikistan and Uzbekistan with the aim of combating terrorism and promoting border security. The organization has expanded in recent years, with the adhesion of India, Pakistan, Iran and Belarus. Although it is not a defensive block in the style of NATO, it functions as a Euroasiatic security and geopolitical forum led by Beijing and Moscow. Tianjin’s is the largest summit held to date, with the assistance of 14 dialogue partners (who can participate, even without being full members), such as Turkey, Egypt, Myanmar or Armenia.

Modi, which landed on Saturday, has held a bilateral encounter with XI on Sunday, during which both wanted to symbolize the burial of the war ax between neighboring countries. The Chinese has assured that both must try to be “good neighbors, friends and partners,” according to the official reading of the Chinese agency Xinhua. Modi, according to this same text, has highlighted how relations have resumed “a positive path”, with the “peaceful and stable” border, and direct flights between the border countries “about to resume.” It is his first visit to China in seven years, after the ties entered a descending spiral after one that caused more than 20 dead military.

In a capricious geopolitical synchrony, Modi’s visit to the Asian giant arrives in the same week when India has been punished by the United States with 50% tariffs on its imports, a critical blow for a booming economy that seeks a growing role as a large manufacturing factory. Trump has also justified the Zarpazo as, that they would be helping Moscow in the large -scale invasion of Ukraine (India is one of the main buyers of Russian energy, only behind China).

In this way, the presence of Modi in China charges a new meaning, and transmits the idea that much of what is talk and discussed in the Popular Republic these days, before the centers or closed doors, it will have an impact on the rest of the planet. Putin comes to the meeting while Trump tries to force a high fire in the Ukraine War. “The appeal of the OCS lies in its simple, but powerful principles: a firm commitment to its founding philosophy, opening to cooperation on equal terms, not attacking third parties and respect for the national characteristics and the uniqueness of each nation,” said the Russian in an interview in Xinhua published on Saturday. “All this will help shape a more fair world multipolar order.”

Putin’s visit to his greatest economic ally in times of war will be long. He plans to stay until Wednesday to attend a military parade in the Tiananmén square on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in (1937-1945) and the end of World War II. In this other event, Iranian President, Masud fishshkian, is also expected, also present at the OCS Summit, and North Korean Kim Jong-un, which will come exclusively for the parade, in which he is his first trip to China since 2019.

The Bilateral Encounters of XI have been happening since Saturday, in a carousel with which Beijing wants to project an image of stability and reliability in the midst of shaking on the global board. The communist president had already interviewed early Sunday afternoon (local time) with the leaders of, among others, India, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Egypt and Myanmar, in addition to the UN Secretary General, António Guterres. On Sunday night he planned to entertain the guests with a banquet, while multilateral rounds and the signature of statements and political agreements will take place on Monday.
