The governor of, (Republicans), said that if he is elected president of the Republic, his first act in office would be to grant a pardon to the former president (PL). The statement was made in an interview with the Greater ABC Diário, published on Friday (29). “At the time. First act. Because I think all that is happening is absolutely unreasonable,” said Tarcisio when asked about the possible pardon.

“I am not a candidate for presidency, I will make it very clear. Every governor of Sao Paulo is presidential, due to the size of the state, a very important state. But we will take the recent history what the governor of Sao Paulo became president of the Republic: the last was Jânio Quadros and the penultimate was Washington Luís,” he said.

Tarcisio also criticized the judiciary and demonstrated support to the former president, which will be tried by the Supreme Court (STF) from next Tuesday (3), accused of trying to promote a coup. “I do not believe in elements for him to be convicted, but unfortunately today I can not say that I trust in justice, for everything we have seen,” he said.

The governor also defended the amnesty to the convicts for the coup acts of January 8, 2023, and said Congress should lead this process. “We have been talking to parties, I believe in a political output via Congress, and Congress has to have its prerogative respected to build a political solution. This solution (amnesty) is not new, was present in other moments of Brazil,” he said, mentioning historical events ranging from revolts in the colonial period to the “64” movement.

In the same interview, Tarcisio also charged a position from the mayor, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), so that the amnesty proposal is brought to the plenary. Without quoting him nominally, he said:
“I understand that the presidents of the house have to submit this to the will of the plenary, and cannot have interference from another power.”
