The Municipality of Faro announced the creation of the program “Faro integrates – 4 solidarity paws”an innovative measure that, according to the municipality, “reinforces the commitment to animal protection and social support to the most needed families.”
Aimed at families or individuals in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability resident in the county that have dogs or cats, the program provides for cumulative support. Among them are the supply of food for animals, electronic identification (microchip and registration with SIAC) and internal deworming, “ensuring animal health and welfare”.

According to the City Council, this initiative aims to “reduce the number of abandonments, financially support families in difficulty and ensure better living conditions for animals”.
Inspired by the principles of the European Convention for the Protection of Company Animals, the program recognizes “the social and affective value that dogs and cats represent in the family.”
The regulation also complements the work developed by the Official Faro Animal Collection Center (Croof), inaugurated in 2023, extending municipal intervention “to prevention and direct support to families”.
Those interested in obtaining more information or formalizing applications may do so through the Municipality Portal (), where the regulation and form is available, or to the Call and Croaf Office.
