The Federal Supreme Court (STF) begins on Tuesday (2/9) the trial of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and seven other defendants accused of participation in an attempted coup. Although the former president may request permission to attend, he is expected to participate in the sessions. The final decision on your presence has not yet been defined.

The defense advised him to stay at home under house arrest. For lawyers, the trip to the court could generate negative political repercussion and compromise procedural strategy. If Bolsonaro decided to attend, he would depend on the endorsement of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the action.
Behind the scenes, allies reported that Bolsonaro even considered a punctual appearance, either at the opening or closing of the judgment, as a symbolic gesture of “resistance.” So far, however, there has been no official request sent to the Supreme.
The trial will be divided into five sessions, distributed in the first two weeks of September, and includes civil and military defendants. The accusations vary from attempted coup and criminal association even damage to public assets. The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) calls for convictions that, in the case of Bolsonaro, may exceed 40 years in prison.
With his lawyers arguing that he is removed from the sessions, Bolsonaro must follow the outcome of the home process in Brasilia.
