Upon arrival at work, employees of a shoe factory in Pindelo, Oliveira de Azeméis, came across this morning with the doors closed and an unexpected warning: the company would have no money to pay them in the next 15 days. The shock was immediate, as no one anticipated a sudden stop of the activity.
According to the site specializing in Economics and Business, Executive Digest, who cites the president of the National Union of Industry and Trade Professionals for Shoes and the like (SNPIC), the company in question is Yff II, Young Fashion Footwear, which employs about 70 people.
The problem is not limited to the promise of delay in September salaries: the July and August salaries are also missing, as well as the vacation allowance.
Boss’s Delay and Silence
The notice posted by the Administration does not clarify what may happen after these 15 days. The boss does not answer phone calls and left no detailed note to workers, increasing the climate of uncertainty.
Among the employees, there is a fear that a temporary suspension of contracts or even an insolvency process grows.
According to the same union source, the situation surprises even more because the factory did not appear signals of production. The pace of work was regular and the unit was producing exclusively for international markets, with orders in the portfolio.
History that raises doubts
The president of SNPIC recalls that the company was constituted in May 2022 and points to the history of the official, who will have already ended other societies suddenly. “The boss is already known for opening and closing companies in this way, changing only the taxpayer number and continuing activity shortly thereafter,” he lamented.
Among the workers, the feeling is of abandonment. Many arrived at the gate in the early hours of the morning and discovered only one affixed sheet. The absence of direct contact with management reinforces distrust.
Open situation
As the case states, the case leaves about 70 families in suspended, with two months of overdue salaries and no warranty about the immediate future. For now, the union promises to accompany workers and evaluate the possible legal solutions, while requiring urgent clarifications.
Contacted by the Lusa Agency, Yff II remained incontactable, with the phone numbers off.
