Forgotten food festival returns with three gastronomic experiences in the interior Algarve

The 3rd edition of the forgotten food festival, organized by the Qurer cooperative, starts in September and promises new opportunities to explore the flavors, stories and memories of the Algarve territory.

According to the organization, “in this edition are the iconic picniques of charm, who delights the participants of the 1st edition, but also new experiences and different thematic areas to be explored, such as the wines and regional confectionery.”

Qure stresses that “there are three opportunities to dive into the region’s cultural heritage, explore the flavors of the territory, to know their stories and the memories of the communities.”

Three prominent events

The program includes three distinct moments:

  • September 14Picnic of charm in the Gentil Mill (Querença), between 10h00 and 15:00.
  • October 19In Herdade do Barranco do Vale, between letters, castes and flavors (S. Bartolomeu de Messines), lunch between 9:30 and 15:30.
  • November 16Charm picnic in Quinta do Freixo (BENAFIM), from 9:30 to 15:30.

Registration for the first two events are already open on the project’s official website. All events have limited vacancies and require prior registration. Additional information can also be consulted on social networks dedicated to the festival: Facebook and Instagram @comida_esquecida.

Heritage, Culture and Economics

The initiative is distinguished by recovering food, practices and knowledge at risk of disappearance, uniting gastronomy, culture and community involvement in low density territories.

For, “cultural and creative tourism, rooted in the identity and traditions of communities, represents a concrete opportunity to defend its cultural heritage and development and encouragement to the economy”.

The forgotten food festival also has the support of Proactivetur, Rêverie, Herdade do Barranco do Vale and Quinta do Freixo, as well as the financing of Tourism of Portugal, the Algarve Tourism Region, the municipality of Loulé – through the Project Interior – and the Union of Parishes of Querença, Tôr and Benamim.
