Seoul is taking the next step towards reducing tension with your northern neighbor. The suspension of the broadcasting of propaganda programs is part of the wider strategy of the new South Korean government, trying to improve relations with Pyongyang.
South Korea temporarily stopped broadcasting propaganda programs to the DPRK, the Ministry of Defense in Seoul announced Monday. This is the next step of the new government aimed at reducing tensions between the two countries, TASR reports according to AFP report.

Broadcasting entitled The Voice of Freedom was first launched in 1962. Apparently it contained, for example, reports from outside the DPRK borders or South Korean music. During more than half a century with breaks, depending on the development of Seoul and Pyongyang relationships continued.
“The Ministry of Defense suspended the broadcasting of the Voice of Freedom in terms of measures to alleviate military tensions with North Korea,” a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense told Monday. South Korea has stopped broadcasting programs from the speakers along the heavily fortified border and also removed part of the speakers.
I Če-Mjong seeks to improve relationships with North Korea
The program was last paused in 2004 during the convergence of countries, but in 2010 it was restored as a result of the North Korea torpedo attack on the South Korean war ship. 46 sailors died.
South Korean President and Če-Mong has been trying to improve relations with North Korea since he joined the office in June 2025 and has also promised to build “military confidence” with Pyongyang. However, North Korea said he was not interested in improving relations with Seoul and the South Korean leader called the “hypocritor” for his call for denuclearization of the DPRK, writes AFP. The North Korean news agency KCNA said the country “will not change its attitude, will not give up nuclear weapons – prestige and honor of the state”.
