Beijing and Moscow sometimes highlight this organization as an alternative to the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO).

Putin will also meet Robert Fico during the summit

The Shanghai Cooperation Summit will be followed on Wednesday by a great military parade in the Chinese capital on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Asia.

Putin is also planning to meet Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on the outskirts of the summit, the counselor Yuri Ušakov announced on Sunday. However, he did not provide details on the topics of the meeting or its deadline. Putin and Fico last met in May this year in Moscow to celebrate the end of World War II in Europe.
