This Monday, September 1, the prohibition of the European Commission for two substances considered toxic enters into force: it is the defilphosphine oxide (TPO) and the dimethyl-P-Toluidine (DMTA). Until now, these types of substances were used for semi -permanent enamels and gels for nails, but from this moment they become “carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction” and its use is prohibited in all countries of the European Union.

The measure, approved last May, is collected in the, that regulates the use in cosmetic products of certain substances considered endocrine disruptors, that is, those that can alter the endocrine system and cause fertility problems, as well as boost diseases such as cancer, diabetes, obesity or attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity, among others. This rule, in turn, updates the Cosmetics Law (), adding these two new substances (the TPO and the DMPT).

The initiative comes after they have been able to demonstrate that these compounds can affect people if continued exposure, as could happen to the workers of the aesthetic clinics that use them daily, or with those users who use them often.

Thus, since September 1, no semi -permanent enamel containing these products can be sold or used in the European Union. In addition, it is recommended to those who have any of these products at home to stop using them.

The prohibition of chemical substances present in everyday products is something relatively common when studies are updated, although some scientists sometimes believe that prohibitions are too slow. : “Many cosmetics and perfumes carry endocrine disruptors, so pregnant women should avoid everyone who takes them: you have to look for them without dimeticone, canfen and phenoxietanol. The latter is also found in the hydroalkolic gel for the hands. You also have to get away from those who carry benzofenones, parabenos and ultraviolet filters.”

And it continues: “, and also the heads of the prawns, which carry cadmium. If you can, eat of closeness, of season, not processed and ecological: with that you avoid the processing and, many times, the packaging, which also usually provides endocrine disruptors. You have to take care of the cosmetic and food exhibitions because they reach the breast milk in 12 hours.”
