Minister of Transport says that the project’s announcement was adapted to the interests of the federal government and is ready for publication

The Minister of Transport (MDB), said, this Monday (1st.Set.2025), that the new project for Transnordestina is ready and will be published in October 2025. According to him, the project took “More time” To be finalized because the ministry had to adapt it to the interests of the federal government.

“The bidding of transnordestine to the Pernambuco axis will be published in October so that the works can be resumed […] This work was private. Would be played by Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional. A private project does not take into account the needs of a public project to be bid, so we fit, we are ready with it and in October we bid ”said during the Northeast Forum 2025.

According to the minister, one of the necessary changes was to fulfill the president’s request (PT) to reinsert the state of Pernambuco in the project’s layout.

“Lula called me and said to reincinate the Pernambuco stretch in Transnordestina. The state and the rest of the Northeast cannot be isolated. And that’s what will happen: Pernambuco will be included in transnordestine.”he said.

The railway

A Transnordestine It is considered a strategic project of Brazil to connect the interior of the Northeast to the main ports of the region, facilitating the flow of grain, sugar, iron ore and other products. With about 1,750 km long planned, the railroad crosses states such as Piauí, Ceará and originally Pernambuco, connecting interior producing areas to the ports of Pecém (CE) and Suape (PE). This reduces logistics costs and dependence on road transport.

In the original project, Pernambuco was included, with the extension connecting Salgueiro to the port of Suape, with 544 km long. However, during the government of (PL), the state was taken from the project.

Transnordestina Logistics concessionaire has stated the economic and financial unfeasibility of operating simultaneously the ports (Suape and Pecém), and the decision was approved by the TCU (Union Court of Accounts), making the Pernambuco stretch temporarily suspended.

With the change of government and the management of President Lula, the Pernambuco stretch was reinserted in the project.

The branch between Salgueiro and Suape became part of the new PAC (New Growth Acceleration Program) and state -owned Infra Sa was assigned to conduct the construction and operation of this stretch, ensuring that Pernambuco will officially integrate the railroad.

With the publication of the bid in October, the signature of contracts should take place by December 2025, with the beginning of the scheduled work for the first half of 2026.
