The Sudan Liberation Army movement said Tarsin’s village was “completely destroyed” and called on to the United Nations to support the recovery of bodies and removal of the rubble.

A landslide caused by heavy rains buried a village in western Sudan on Sunday, killing at least a thousand people, the armed group controls the region said on Tuesday.

“We follow with deep sadness and concern the tragic events that affected the residents of Tarsin village, due to the huge and devastating lands of lands that reached the village, located in the center of Jebel Marra, in the District of Amo,” said the movement of the Sudan liberation army (SLM, in the English acronym).

According to the initial reports, all residents, about a thousand people, including “men, women and children”, died in the landslide on Sunday, and Only one person survived.

SLM, a group led by Abdelwahid Mohamed Nour, emphasized in a statement that Tarsin village was “completely destroyed” and appealed to the United Nations to support the recovery of bodies and removal of the rubble.

Sudan is involved in a war between the Sudanese army and the Paramilitar Group Fast Support Forces (RSF) in the state of Darfur do Norte, which led to the forced travel of people looking for refuge in the mountains of Marra.

SLM is a rebel group of Darfur that controls Jebel Marra’s mountainous region and remained neutral in the clashes between the RSF and the Army.

The war in Sudan, which has opposed the RSF to the Army since April 2023, caused the death of tens of thousands of people and the displacement of about 13 million, making the country the stage of the worst humanitarian catastrophe on the planet.
