Excessive sweating contributes inappropriate clothing and diet, stress, but also some diseases such as obesity, diabetes or thyroid disease. This was pointed out by the pharmacist Jakub Ďurčík from the pharmacy Dr. Max, with the fact that if excessive sweating occurs without apparent cause, it is advisable to find an expert.

“Excessive sweating without apparent cause, known as hyperhidrosis, may be hereditary or related to the health condition or use of medicines. It most often affects the armpits, palms, feet and can also manifest as night sweats,” Durčík explained. He added that There are several methods of treatment or suppression of excessive sweating – ionophoresis, surgical procedures, laser removal of sweat glands or, for example, the application of botulinum toxin.

He explained that sweat consists mainly of water and minerals, and the smell is produced by its breakdown with bacteria on the skin. Ecrine glands, located all over the body, produce sweat without odor and apocrine glands in the armpit and groin creates sweat that bacteria turn into an unpleasant odor. “During higher temperatures the glands are activated more due to cooling of the body, which brings odor, damp spots and irritation,“Added the pharmaceutist.

As he pointed out, some drinks and meals may contribute to the worsening of sweating. According to an expert, the most suitable choice is clean water, mineral water or other unsweetened drinks, especially sage is suitable for teas. “Avoid excessive drinking of coffee and alcohol as they stimulate sweating. Pungent and spicy foods with curry, chilli or garlic increase the smell of sweat. Bet on light salads, vegetables, watery fruits and chilled dairy products, ”Ďurčík advised. According to his words, it is advisable to choose air – flax, cotton or silk that help the skin to breathe.

When choosing between antiperspirant and deodorant recalled that Antiperspirants contain aluminum compounds that temporarily block the sweat gland outlets. This reduces the formation of sweat and consequently unpleasant odor. “In some countries, antiperspirants are registered as drugs as they affect physiological function. In our country, they are among cosmetics and are commonly sold in pharmacies and drugstores such as sprays, solid bars or ball roll-on,” Durčík said. With the fact that they should be applied to clean, dry skin, ideally in the evening, but they do not need to be used every day.
