PP President Senator Ciro Nogueira (PI) said former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) needs to choose someone to “win” President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) to compete for the 2026 elections in his place. Bolsonaro is ineligible and will be tried for a coup attempt in the coming days.
“The only one who can’t lose next year’s election is Jair Bolsonaro because of his situation. He has to choose someone who can win,” he told the Economic valuein an interview published on Monday, 1st.
Ciro Nogueira believes Bolsonaro, who cannot “take more risks”, will avoid divisions in the right field by choosing a “successor.” Among the presidential, he considers that the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), is the one who has the greatest chance of defeating Lula at the polls.

The senator accused the president of wanting to “burn him” by mentioning Tarcisio as Bolsonaro’s choice for 2026 and his own name as deputy of the plate. “Fixing Tarcisio as a candidate now leads sectors from the right to hit Tarcisio,” he said.
