Increase registered in July 2025 was 0.6% compared to the same month of 2024
Brazil registered an increase in national electricity consumption in July 2025, compared to the same month of 2024. The data, of (Energy Research Company), were released on the last Thursday (28.ago.2025). This increase breaks down the falling trend observed in the previous 3 months.
Consumption in July 2025 was 45,177 gigawatts-hour, an increase of 0.6% over the same period of the previous year.
According to EPE, the residential class recorded high, with an interanual rate of 5.9%in July 2025. The industrial classes (-1.0%), commercial (-1.5%) and others (-3.6%) had retraction.
Regionally, the South (+4.4%) stood out. EPE attributes high to the low comparative base with July 2024, when Rio Grande do Sul had its consumption affected by floods.
Northeast (+1.7%) and North (+1.0%) also used more energy, while the Southeast (-1.1%), and the Midwest (-1.1%) had retraction in consumption.
The accumulated national consumption in the last 12 months was 563,208 GWh, up 1.6% over the same period of the previous year.
The EPE says that the Migration Migration of Captive Consumers to the Free Market remains intense after opening to all consumers of Group A (High Voltage) in January 2024, established at the Ministry of Mines and Energy Ordinance No. 50 of 2022.
According to the company, the free market, with 20,760 GWh, accounted for 46.0% of national electricity consumption in July 2025, with growth of 4.8% in consumption and 49.7% in the number of consumers compared to July 2024.
The south was the region that most expanded consumption (+10.1%), while the Midwest had the largest increase in the number of free consumers (+72.1%). Already the regulated market of distributors, with 24,417 GWh, which accounted for 54.0% of national consumption, had a drop in consumption of 2.8% and an increase in the number of consumers of 1.7% in July 2025.
In the regulated market, the south registered the lowest retraction of consumption (-0.2%) among the regions, while the northern region had the largest increase in the number of captive consumers (+3.3%).
For the month of September, the (National Electric Energy Agency) has already determined that the red tariff flag on level 2. The charge adds $ 7.87 per 100 kWh (kilowatts-hours) consumed in the electricity bill.
