In the letter sent to the UN, the entities state that “almost 20 years later and despite the tireless struggle of family members for justice, no execution has been clarified, no state agent was held responsible and, nor the families were properly repaired.”
The court of first instance ruled for the end of the lawsuit because it should have been filed five years after the facts. On September 4, the STJ must judge appeal filed by the State Public Defender’s Office against this period.
The entities say, in the UN document, that the facts “constitute serious human rights violations” and, according to international conventions that Brazil is a signatory, such as the American Human Rights Convention and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, “are therefore imprescriptible.”
