São Paulo receives the fifth exhibition from Flexatitled “Wind“. The show invites the public to a deep dive in the dimensions of the emptyof desire and softness, seeking to offer an experience that opposes the sensory hyperestimulation characteristic of the contemporary world.
Under the curatorship of Luisa Duarte and with the expography signed by Daniela Thomasthe collective brings together works from more than 40 artists renowned and emerging talents. The exhibition will be on display at SkylightHouse of Art located in the West Zone of São Paulo, Until October 4th this year.
The provocative title of the exhibition, “Wind“, is inspired by a paradox of the poetics of Mira Schendelraising the question of how to build the perennial in the ephemeral.
The curator Luisa Duarte explains that this concept of building something lasting in what is volatile materializes in thematic nuclei such as “Minimum gestures“, “Empty” e “Rarefit Landscapes“.
The core of the exhibition called “Empty“, seeks to resignify the concept of absence, proposing that emptiness” exists, affects, modifies what is around, “says Duarte.
The Expography of Daniela Thomas It reinforces this idea with the installation of suspended walls that “float along the gallery”, creating a “aerated composition, close to the idea of the wind” that permeates the curatorial proposal.
In the curator’s view, the show represents a response to the “striking of affections”, using softness and silence as a counterpoint to acceleration and the excess of stimuli of modern life.
Featured dialogue and artists
The collective promotes a rich intergenerational dialoguejoining the legacy of masters of Brazilian and international art to talents that emerge in the contemporary scene.
Among the established names, they stand out Lucio Fontana, Mira Schendel, half e Adriana Varejão. Beside them are emerging artists like Rebeca Carapiá e Juliana dos Santoswho will even have participation in the next São Paulo Biennial, highlighting artistic renewal.
Among the more than 40 selected artiststhe exhibition also includes iconic figures as Agnes Martin, Alexander Calder, Lygia Clark, Lygia Pape e Leonilson.
Leonilson’s approach to blank and empty Campos is one of the inspirations for the axes of the show. Another special highlight is the unprecedented sculpture produced by the important artist IOL DE FREITAS Specifically for exposure, using materials such as Glassine paper, copper wire and stones, which encapsulates the essence of “wind construction”.
