The photographer of Gabriela Biló was awarded the Poy Latam Award as a highlight in the “Human Rights and Democracy” category, with the rehearsal “Insurrection”, which features images of the scam attempt on January 8, 2023, and also in the “Fotolivro” category, with the work “The Truth will free you”, in which the photographer records an overview of Brazilian politics from 2013 to 2023.
Created in 2011 by Pablo Corral Vega, Ecuadorian photographer, and Langton, US academic, Poy Latam is today the most important documentary photography contest of Ibero-América.
Inspired by the historic Pictures of the Year International contest, the award gives visibility to the work of photographers and visual creators of Latin America, Caribbean, Spain and Portugal.
The photographic coverage of January 8 also yielded to the photographer of the Sheet An honorable mention in the 2024 edition of the largest award of world photojournalism.
The photographic reporter entered the midst of the intent and caught the scammers by destroying the premises of the Planalto Palace and the Supreme Court (STF). “The coverage was risky, dangerous. There were more than ten assaulted photojournalists who had their photos stolen,” says Biló.
The photobook “The Truth will free you”, a partnership of the photographer with designer Pedro Inoue and the project Fear and Delirium, about images of the troubled national political context between 2013 and 2023, also won the “Art Book” category.
