The medical devices segment is one of the industrial sectors affected by the 50% applied to property imported from Brazil by Donald Trump administration and has made efforts to mitigate the effects of US aggressive trade policy. ABIMO, the sector’s association, has kept constant conversations with the Ministry of Health to expand SUS public purchases and articulates with Apex-Brazil to seek alternative markets to the United States.

On Tuesday (2) the deadline for manufacturers affiliated with the Brazilian Medical Device Industry Association register for an online business round that Apex-Brazil will perform with buyers of Eurasia from the medical-dental device sector and pharmaceutical solutions.

This digital meeting will be held in November, still to be defined, and there will be a final selection for the participation of something between 10 and 15 companies with the greatest potential to export.

According to data from ABIMO, in 2024 alone, Brazil exported about US $ 300 million on medical devices to the US market. The goods included in this category are to diagnose, prevent and treat diseases such as stethoscopes, oximeters, pressure appliances, treatment and prevention equipment such as syringes and bandages, and implantable devices such as stents and pacemakers.

In addition to the willingness to seek new markets, the sector also expects a national preference program to be accelerated in SUS purchases, included in PAC, with R $ 2.6 billion reserved, according to report in Istoé Money magazine. The publication says that ABIMO wants to take advantage of the crisis to defend a wide modernization of the national public hospital network.

The Association’s president, Jamir Dagor Jr., said in August, after meeting with Minister Alexandre Padilha, that the sector also undergoes indirect effects of the American commercial measure. “We deal with the impacts of ‘fare’ on other countries, which have increasingly pushing the Brazilian market due to the flood of imported products in search of new buyers. This will be another challenge for the national industry,” he said.
