Mayor contradicts a statement 3 days earlier given by the President of the Republic in an interview with a Minas Gerais radio
(Republicans-PB) denied this Monday (1st.SET.2025) having discussed with (PT) a possible cancellation of the mandate of the federal deputy (PL-SP). The speech contradicts a statement from the President of the Republic, who in an interview with a mining radio given 3 days earlier said he had dealt with the subject with the mayor.
“I have a great relationship with President Lula. Every time we find ourselves, we dealt with various matters of interest in the country, but this was not a subject between us.”declared Motta. According to the mayor, “There are other much more important guidelines to be treated.”
Lula said the following in an interview with Radio Itatiaia on Friday (29.ago): “I already talked to President Hugo Motta, I have talked to several deputies that it is extremely necessary to revoke Eduardo Bolsonaro, because he will move to history as the greatest traitor in the history of this country.”.
On the same Friday (29th), Eduardo had sent a letter to Motta requesting his. In the document, son 03 of the former president (PL) states that his permanence abroad is forced by political persecution.
Eduardo has been in the US since February, where he has been lobbying for sanctions against Brazilian authorities to try to help his father, about to be tried by the Supreme Court on charges of attempted coup after losing the elections to Lula in 2022.
The deputy’s license expired on July 20. Since then, he has not attended the plenary sessions of the house. The Constitution establishes in its article 55 that a parliamentarian may lose his mandate if he misses 1/3 of the ordinary sessions of the year, except if he is on a license or on an official mission.
Even without attending any session by the end of 2025, Eduardo will not lose his mandate for excess fouls this year. The eventual punishment could only occur from March 2026, when the Chamber will analyze the absences of the previous year.
On August 15, the mayor sent Eduardo to the Ethics Council. These representations of Bolsonaro’s son were stopped at the board of directors and were sent following the regular procedure.
