The senator and former Minister of Agriculture (-MS) says fearing new sanctions from the United States against Brazil due to the former president (), from Tuesday (2).
According to the senator, who was a minister in Bolsonaro’s government, this message was clear to July to meet with congressmen and authorities with access to the White House.
Tereza states that Bolsonaro must have a broad right of defense and says the group heard during the trip that US President Donald Trump is in place of the Brazilian.
“We may have a climb at this first moment of some retaliation from the United States, that’s what we heard there. We thought the political part existed, but it wasn’t so strong and so linked to the commercial part, but it is. That’s what we heard from several interlocutors who have access to the White House,” he says to the interview, weekly video Videocast of Sheet.
“Where we talked, they said: that President Trump finds himself in the same condition that today is President Bolsonaro, persecuted. He sees himself in this condition and he put this political imposition.”
Tereza advocates the position of independence of Brazilian institutions to Trump’s impositions, but evaluates that the “political issue” may impact, for example, in the United States of the extra 50%tariff.
She directs responsibility for the Lula government (PT), who accuses a lack of dialogue with the United States, but extends the disapproval of federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), son of Bolsonaro.
“I wouldn’t do that. I, in his place. He’s son, he has his reasons, finally, his methods. I wouldn’t do that. I play for Brazil,” he says.
Tereza says it is necessary to wait for the outcome of Bolsonaro’s trial to define the right candidate for the 2026 elections.
The senator cites the governors, from Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), and Paraná, Ratinho Jr. (PSD), as possible names, but charges them a political plan for Brazil.
Tereza states that “it would be false” if he said he would not want to be vice president of the country, but says that putting this issue before defining the candidate is like “putting the wagon in front of the donkeys.”
“Saying I wouldn’t like is not true. I would be here being false. But I would like to be deputy of whom? Who is the candidate?
“I think the names that are put are very good. It is a matter of choosing and knowing the most viable and that has the best project for Brazil. I think those who come have to bring a robust proposal to this country that we want to give it.”
The senator evaluates that Lula’s improvement in popularity with the defense discourse of national sovereignty can be quickly reversed if sanctions result in mass layoffs from the affected sectors. In this case, he says, the fault will fall mainly to the current president.
“He raised there with this problem, talking about sovereignty. But we have to pay close attention, because this can be a chicken flight, a short flight. What happens if tomorrow start closing companies?”
