To look at healthy plants full of flowers, but no fruits in sight: a frustrating summer scenario that is experienced by a number of growers. Why do the tomatoes bloom, but do not produce?
It is a heartfelt affair for many, but even experienced gardeners can sometimes get a lot of their heads. Especially in the summer, it often happens that tomatoes bloom lush, but fruits nowhere. Most often, however, it is not the fault of pests or diseases, but the weather itself or shortcomings in care. The good news is that Most causes can be easily detected and often remedied.
Watch which types of tomatoes have the popular garden expert Jana Bucharová in the video.
Flowers without harvest: What is missing tomatoes?
Tomatoes come from warmer areas, but extreme summer heat does not tell them. If temperatures exceed 30 ° C during the day and do not drop below 24 ° C at night, pollination failures occur: pollen becomes sterile and flowers gradually fall off without fetal formation. High humidity can compact the pollen so much that it does not get exactly where it has. On the contrary, in extreme drought, pollen does not hold and just blows off. The result is a zero crop.
Tomatoes are self -sufficient, but that does not mean that they do not need help to have a successful pollination. Outdoor cultivation usually relies on wind and insects, especially bumble bees and bees. Their movement helps pollen to get to the right place. However, insects are often limited in or hotbeds and will not take over pollination without its contribution. In this case, the flowers can be shaken by hand, gently shake the whole plant or use a brush.
Even well -cared tomatoes without proper fertilization lose the strength to form fruits. While nitrogen promotes leaves growth, potassium is key to flowering and fertility. So if the tomatoes grow lush, but do not produce, it is time to reach for a fertilizer with a higher potassium content, whether from the store or in the form of domestic extracts from nettles or comfrey.
What about it? Above all patience and correct care
Even if they do not carry fruits, do not stop taking care of the tomatoes. Regular watering, ideally to the roots, protection against extreme conditions, such as shielding at the heat, and continuous fertilization will help the plants overcome the period of stress. Once the weather gets better, the pollination and fertility will start.

If you grow tomatoes in a very hot area or in a protected, low -ventilated place, consider the selection of varieties that better tolerate high temperatures and produce even under less favorable conditions. Examples include varieties such as HeatMaster or Solar Fire.
Thus, tomatoes that do not produce are not a sign of your failure. It is often not your care to blame, but the weather that you unfortunately cannot influence. In most cases, the situation with the advent of milder temperatures will improve, and you will find that you are not able to harvest at once.
