The defense of General Walter Souza Braga Netto, lawyer José Luis Oliveira Lima, said on Wednesday (3), that Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former joint of orders from Jair Bolsonaro (PL), “blatant mind.”
Braga Netto has been under arrest since December last year in Rio de Janeiro on suspicion of obstruction of justice, according to investigations.
In a statement on February 5, 2024, Mauro Cid confirmed that Braga Netto and “other intermediaries” sought out his father, General Mauro Lourena Cid, by telephone to finding information about the award -winning collaboration.
“It will give credibility to this Defendant whistleblower? What is blatantly linked all the time? What is in this court, what lies before the interrogation? It is not possible. It is not possible, Minister Flávio Dino. Of course this defense has to be outraged by this, my client is stuck based on his denunciation. It was this fact that brought the arrest of my client,” said the general’s lawyer.

Who are the defendants of core 1?
In addition to former President Jair Bolsonaro, the crucial core of the coup plan has seven other defendants:
- Alexandre Ramagem, Federal Deputy and former President of Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency);
- Almir Garnier, squador admiral who commanded the navy in the Bolsonaro government;
- Anderson Torres, former Minister of Justice of Bolsonaro;

- Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, General and former Minister of Defense of Bolsonaro;
- Walter Souza Braga Netto, former Minister of Defense and the Civil House in the Government of Bolsonaro, candidate for vice president in 2022.
- Why are the defendants being accused for?
Bolsonaro and other defendants respond in the Supreme Court to five crimes. They are:
- Armed criminal organization;
- Attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law;
- Coup d’etat;
- Damage qualified by violence and serious threat;
- Deterioration of listed assets.
The exception is branch. In early May, the House of Representatives approved a request for suspension of the criminal action against the parliamentarian. With this, he responds only to crimes of armed criminal organization, attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law and coup.
