Polish President Karol Nawrocki said on Wednesday that he had reiterated his clear position towards Russia during negotiations with US President Donald Trump in Washington, expressed solidarity with Ukraine and support for sanctions. He responded to the question of what the attitude of Trump would be to the possible initiatives to end the war. This is reported by Warsaw TASR rapporteur based on the President’s press conference after the end of the meeting.
Nawrocki: Economic data clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of sanctions against Russia
“I can assure you that whether in telephone talks with European leaders or Washington, I always speak the same language – that Vladimir Putin cannot be believed and that other packages of sanctions, including secondary, are essential,” he stressed. Nawrocki added that his American partner is a politician who can listen and opens up the opinion of other leaders.
The Polish President added that economic data clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of sanctions against Russia. According to him, during negotiations with Trump, he represented not only Polish but also European solidarity with Ukraine in the field of military support, while no bilateral disputes were open. “What the President Trump will do to this information is his decision,” the Polish president concluded.
Presidents also discussed the extensions of US military presence in Poland and economic cooperation
Nawrocki informed that during the negotiations there was also talk of the possibility of extending the presence of American soldiers in Poland, including their permanent base. By preparing specific solutions, they should entrust his advisor to Slawomir Cenciawicz and American advisor Pete Heghseth. According to him, Trump described Poland as an “exceptional and special ally” and assured the continuation of close military cooperation.
In addition to security issues, they also discussed economic cooperation. Trump supported the Trojmoria initiative and other US gas supplies to Central Europe. Nawrocki stressed that he came to the US not only as a voice of Poles, but also as a representative of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, including the Baltic States.
