The extent of the damage to the new earthquake affected by the East of Afghanistan is not yet known. After the previous earthquake, at least 2200 people have already lost their lives.
The magnitude earthquake of the 6.2 Richter scale on Thursday hit the southeast of Afghanistan, says the German research center for Geoveda (GFZ). The east of the country has been affected by at least two other strong earthquakes last week, TASR writes, according to Reuters report.
The earthquake struck approximately ten kilometers deep. The extent of damage was not known immediately. The previous shocks in the east of Afghanistan claimed more than 2200 lives this week and caused injuries to over 3600 people.
The first of a series of earthquakes hit on Sunday late at night 27 kilometers northeast of the town of Jalálábad in the province of Nangarhar. The neighboring province of Kunar was also strongly affected. It is one of the saddest natural disasters in Afghanistan in recent years. The second earthquake near the epicenter of the first on Tuesday reached a power of 5.2 Richter scale.
Afghanistan often affects earthquakes, especially around Hindúku, where the Eurasian and Indian tectonic board meets.
