A federal court panel has ruled that US President Donald Trump cannot use a law of eighteenth -century war times to accelerate the deportations of people his administration accuses of being part of a Venezuelan gang. The decision, however, is intended for a confrontation in the Supreme Court.
Two judges of a panel of three from the 5th US Appeals Court in Tuesday’s ruling agreed with lawyers of the rights of immigrants and lower court judges arguing that the 1798 Alien Enemies ACT was not intended to be used against gangs such as the Aragua Tren, which the president had aimed in March.
White House spokesman Abigail Jackson said most of them missed Trump. “The authority to conduct national security operations in US defense and to remove terrorists reside exclusively with the president,” said Jackson.
