The governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Koadosanctioned a law that creates the State Authority of Critical Minerals of the State.

The agency will be responsible for the elaboration of public policies related to research, exploitation, refining, industrialization, transportation and marketing of existing critical minerals in Goiás.

The measure occurs in the midst for the production of batteries, semiconductors and cutting -edge technologies.

The authority will be chaired by the governor, while secretaries and directors of state agencies will compose the rest of the team.

The law also defines which minerals will be considered strategic: rare lands, niobium, nickel, copper, titanium and phosphate. The text also provides for the inclusion of new minerals after “strategic and marketing” analysis.

Among the main objectives of the agency is the creation of the state policy of infrastructure and logistics for critical minerals, focusing on the integration of highways, railways, ports, processing zones and airports, ensuring the flow of state mineral production.

Another function of the authority will be to represent Goiás in national and international forums, seeking partnerships and agreements in the sector. On August 28, Caiado received a delegation from the Japan Embassy to discuss the exploration of rare land on Goiás soil.

The law also authorizes the creation of special zones of critical minerals, areas with strategic potential that will receive economic, tax and credit benefits, as well as priority investments in transportation, logistics and energy infrastructure.

In addition, the legislation establishes the State Fund for the Development of Critical Minerals, designed to finance projects and initiatives in the area.

The fund may receive funds from the state budget, private companies, international institutions and income from financial investments.

Fund resources will be applied in five areas:

  • Research and technological development related to critical minerals;
  • Construction and expansion of specific logistics and energy infrastructure;
  • Support for the installation of companies and industries aimed at the beneficiation and refining of critical minerals;
  • Professional and technological training programs, and financing of research agencies related to mineral activity;
  • Environmental recovery and social development projects of communities affected by mining.
