A group of 20 young Portuguese is in the LVIV region of Ukraine, where they will attend an international meeting dedicated to the future of the European Union. The initiative, promoted by Erasmus+agency, with the support of the European Commission and the Ukrainian authorities, takes place in a war context and a time when Ukraine tries to enter the European Union.
The program integrates debates, shares of experiences and moments of tribute to the Ukrainian soldiers killed in combat. In several sessions, mothers of military man killed in front of battle gave striking testimonies, sharing stories that thrilled participants, while underlining the weight of freedom and defense of democratic values. A moment that was marked by silence.
Despite the circumstances, the initiative aims to reinforce the ties between young Portuguese and Ukrainians, highlighting the central role of new generations in the construction of a more united European, based on freedom, democracy and the rule of law.
