Λισαβόνα: Τριήμερο πένθος μετά τον εκτροχιασμό του τελεφερίκ – Ερωτήματα για το δυστύχημα

A three -day national mourning was declared in Portugal after derailment and crash of the iconic cable car, and the serious injury of five, including one child.

The authorities did not disclose the identities or the nationalities of the victims, but they confirmed that foreign nationals are among the dead. Many people had to get rid of the debris and the total number of passengers in the cable car has not yet been clarified.

Carris: The checks had been made

There are questions about what the accident caused, with the Lisbon authorities arguing that it is too early to determine the causes that caused it.

Carris, which operates the cable car, said that the established four -year and intermediate two -year maintenance in the cable car had taken place, as well as everyday, weekly and monthly checks. However, the Observador reported that a rope relaxed along the cable car route, resulting in the lost control and collided with a nearby building.

Pictures that make the internet tour show the yellow and white wagon being dissolved by the severity of the collision. The derailment of the cable car was when the wagon, descending from the Sao Pedro de Alcantara observatory to the restaurant, diverted its course and crashed into a building.

“He hit a building with force and collapsed like a paper tower. He had no brakes, ”said a resident who was passing by the point of the accident.

“I express my heartfelt condolences to all the families and friends of the victims. Lisbon is mourning, ”said Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moose. Speaking to the Portuguese midfielder Diario de Noticia, he said that “it is a tragedy that has never happened in our city. Action and help are at the moment. All I can say is that it’s a very tragic day. “

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said he was “overwhelmed by the terrible accident”, and European Commission President Ursula von der Laien also expressed her condolences.

The Portuguese government has announced that the causes investigation will begin as soon as the rescue operation is completed.

The legendary Gloria

Gloria, which can carry more than 40 passengers, is one of the three cables of the Portuguese capital and has been designated a national monument. The cable car was inaugurated in 1885, as the second of its kind in the city and in 1915 it was powered.

Gloria, like the other two Lisbon cables, was designed by Portuguese engineer Raoul Mesnier de Ponsard.

It is the most famous and popular cable car in the city and is estimated to carry about three million passengers a year. It connects Restaurantors Square in the center with the Bairro Alto district, at the top of the hill, in just three minutes.

It departs every 12 minutes on both sides, starting at 7:15 am, while the last itinerary takes place at 11:55 pm. The view from Bairro Alto is considered by many to be the best in Lisbon.
